Journey to Healing

Due to chronic back issues, I am a frequent visitor to the chiropractor. What never ceases to amaze me is that I will go in for pain in one area of my back, but she usually spends a lot of time adjusting another part of my back and barely touches the spot that is giving me problems.

Often, she will touch on some random part of my back and ask, “That hurts, doesn’t it?” as I practically jump off the table in pain. I have no idea what she sees, but she is right on in her adjustments and I leave the office feeling sore, but on the road to recovery. Sometimes it takes just one appointment to feel better, other times it takes several appointments to be fully recovered.

I pondered this the other day as I was waiting for an adjustment. The Lord showed me that oftentimes we come to Him wanting help or healing in one area of our life, but it’s really another area that needs the healing. The pain or problem area we are praying about may be a symptom of a deeper issue that we are not aware of. But He knows!

Recently, the Lord has been showing me that many of my emotional responses to events or statements made by other people are interpreted through the filter of past hurts and offenses. I often don’t even remember what those hurts or offenses are until the Lord brings them to mind.

Over the years, I would pray for more patience and understanding, but all the while there were issues in my life that I needed to recognize and deal with. There were things that I needed to forgive or repent of that I wasn’t aware of.

I was praying for the simple solution, “Lord, please fix this!” and expecting that one day I would wake up and all my problems would suddenly be gone.

Sometimes the Lord will do that, but a lot of times He has something even better in mind. He hears our prayers and He is thorough in our healing. He knows exactly what the problem is and how to fix it!

I needed to lay all of those past issues at the foot of the cross and receive the healing that only Jesus can give. What freedom that is!

I am not saying that it is simple. It’s definitely not easy and it hasn’t happened all at once. It’s a lifetime journey because the Lord is always showing me new areas that I need work on!

Are there areas in your life that you struggle with? Are you praying for healing in these areas?  Are you spending time listening to what the Holy Spirit is telling you?

Maybe your path to healing isn’t the simple, straight line you think it should be.

Perhaps there are issues that require intervention by outside sources. Sometimes the Lord uses other people to help us on our journey. Maybe there are barriers that require physical intervention. I really can’t say how it will all play out for you or what challenges you may face.

But I do know with absolute certainty that you need to ask the Lord! Ask Him to heal you and to show you any areas of your life that you need to work on, repent of, or forgive!

And then Listen.

Wait.

Read the Word.

Obey.

Trust that He is faithful and that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6)

Walk in faith, my friends!

2 TIMOTHY 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

PSALM 51:10
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

PSALM 23:3
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

PSALM 147:3
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

PHILIPPIANS 1:6
being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
